Brazil’s Port of Santos handled 452,000 TEU in February, a record for the month and up four per cent from a year earlier, reported Miami’s Datamar News.

Total cargo throughput rose 0.4 per cent to 13.17 million tonnes despite heavy rainfall. Shipments of soybeans and meal fell 12.6 per cent but were offset by a 46.8 per cent rise in sugar exports.

Outbound shipments slipped 1.7 per cent to 9.33 million tonnes, while unloading operations increased 5.9 per cent to 3.84 million tonnes.

Year-to-date container traffic also set a record, reaching 919,200 TEU, up 2.6 per cent from the same period last year.

Total cargo in the first two months of 2026 reached 25.9 million tonnes, compared with 24.8 million tonnes a year earlier. Exports rose 4.5 per cent to 18 million tonnes, while imports climbed 5 per cent to 7.9 million tonnes.

Liquid bulk throughput set a record at 3.2 million tonnes, up 11.8 per cent. Fertiliser shipments also stood out, rising 4.8 per cent to 1.46 million tonnes.
