In a strategic move to capitalize on surging intra-Asia trade, the recent DP World Laem Chabang Extension has secured the Dubai-based logistics giant a five-year concession to operate the vital B5 container berth. Granted by the Port Authority of Thailand, this extension ensures operations run from May 2026 through April 2031. The agreement reinforces Thailand’s position as a dominant maritime gateway and highlights shifting regional supply chain dynamics.

Operating through its joint venture, Laem Chabang International Terminal Co., Ltd. (LCIT), DP World manages the B5 and C3 berths. The facility offers 900 meters of berth length, allowing four vessels to dock simultaneously, supported by 4,420 square meters of on-dock freight station capacity.

  • Record throughput of 1.936 million TEUs was achieved in 2025.
  • The extension supports integrating a new rail-connected inland container yard in Khon Kaen.
  • Decarbonization is prioritized following the 2025 deployment of five electric internal transfer vehicles (eITVs).

The DP World Laem Chabang Extension actively funds the terminal’s green transition. DP World reported that the new eITVs reduced emissions by approximately 60% compared to traditional diesel-powered alternatives. For 2026, planned capacity investments include acquiring additional eITVs, electric reach stackers, and zero-emission empty container handlers. As regional shipping networks face increasing pressure, this strategic concession guarantees service stability while positioning Southeast Asia for sustainable, high-volume logistics.
